10th Magnitude is excited to announce that as of June 8, 2020, our company achieved SOC 2 Type II certification! We have also received our SOC 3 attestation, which is an audit report that indicates compliance.
Meeting the strict requirements for this achievement illustrates our ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure environment for client data. Keep reading to learn more about what this certification means for 10th Magnitude and our clients.
What Is SOC 2 Type II Certification?
SOC 2, which is pronounced “sock two,” stands for Service Organization Control 2. It’s a certification standard formed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) that measures the effectiveness of cloud and data center security controls. The certification is based on strict principles called Trust Services Criteria and requires an in-depth, third-party audit prior to receiving the certification.
10th Magnitude’s audit was conducted by Plante Moran, one of the largest certified public accounting and business advisory firms in the country. Plante Moran also conducted our audit for SOC 2 Type I certification, which we received in December of 2019. You can read more about SOC 2 Type I at this link.
Why Is SOC 2 Type II Certification Important?
Information security is critical for every business, and threats are always changing — but so are we. Achieving SOC 2 Type II certification signifies that we are committed to maintaining high security standards.
This audit doesn’t just apply to our certification year — it’s an ongoing effort. Each year, our auditors will request proof that we continue to meet these stringent security requirements, so that year after year, our clients can rest assured that we take information security very seriously.
What Is Included in The Audit?
10th Magnitude’s SOC 2 Type II audit examined many areas of security, including physical facility security and access parameters in both our Chicago, IL and Tulsa, OK offices, as well as information security threat monitoring, protection of systems, incident response procedures, and risk mitigation activities.
The audit also examined 10th Magnitude’s use of third-party SaaS applications for Managed Services and Professional Services Systems, as well as 10th Magnitude’s background check process, corporate policies, user controls, and adherence to applicable regulations regarding data access and handling.
Managing access controls includes, but is not limited to, enabling multi-factor authentication whenever possible and closely monitoring network activity to detect and respond to threats.
